The Speaker's Reel: How to Create a 90-Second Video That Gets You Booked
Event organizers make booking decisions fast. They have a short list of speakers, a budget, and a deadline. They will spend, on average, less than three minutes evaluating your materials before deciding whether to move forward or move on. Your speaker reel is the most important three minutes of your career.
Most speaker reels are too long, too self-indulgent, and edited from the wrong moments. Here's what actually works.
The 90-Second Formula
0:00–0:15: Open with your most powerful moment on stage — a laugh, a gasp, a standing ovation, an audience reaction. Don't introduce yourself first. Show the goods.
0:15–0:35: Three fast clips from different stages, different sizes of audience, different settings. This establishes range and demand. "This person speaks everywhere" is what the organizer needs to believe.
0:35–0:55: Two audience reaction moments — people nodding, laughing, taking notes, wiping tears. The speaker's job is to affect the audience. Show that you do.
0:55–1:15: One organizer or client testimonial, on camera or overlaid as a quote. "We had our highest attendee satisfaction scores ever" is pure gold.
1:15–1:30: Your name, topic area, website, and booking contact. Clean, simple, professional.
Where to Use Your Reel on Social Media
Post it to LinkedIn as a native video (not a link). Pin it to the top of your profile. Include a version in your Instagram highlights. Post the raw full-length talk to YouTube — it shows up in Google searches for "leadership resilience keynote speaker."
The Mistake Most Speakers Make
They wait until they have a "perfect" stage video to make their reel. Perfect is the enemy of booked. A reel shot at a 200-person corporate event is enough to get you in front of the 500-person audience. That 500-person audience gets you on the 2,000-person stage. Start with what you have.
ForaPost creates and schedules your reel, talk highlights, and thought leadership content consistently — so organizers who find you on any platform see the full picture of why you're worth the investment.
